Last week, BBC Children in Need announced its fundraising total for the 2018 Appeal; a whopping £58 million!
The charity said that the incredible total would not have been possible without the public once again coming together to help raise money to change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people.
The total of £58 million raised for Children in Need is the culmination of the efforts of every single person across the UK who did something to raise money, from rambles, dance-a-thons and duck races, to sky diving, quiz nights and donations. The money raised included that from Greggs’ customers up and down the country.
Greggs and BBC Children in Need marked the 12th year of their partnership in 2018 and, in that time, Greggs has raised over £8.5 million for the charity. In the run up to the appeal, Greggs’ customers had the chance to sink their teeth into Pudsey and Blush ring buns, Pudsey shortbread and Blush gingerbread. Pudsey keyrings, ears and wristbands were also on sale, along with pin badges. All proceeds went to the charity.
Roger Whiteside, Chief Executive Office at Greggs, said: “Through our colleagues’ fantastic fundraising efforts, combined with the generosity of our customers, we have helped to raise vital funds to support the charity and all of the work it does to help disadvantaged young people throughout the UK. Ensuring our people, communities and values are at the heart of our business is so very important and our work with BBC Children in Need really helps bring that to life.”
Adding to these comments, Simon Antrobus – Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need – said: “Once again our incredible supporters across the UK have done themselves proud. This is a tremendous result and will allow us to continue our vital work to help make a difference to disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. As a charity we exist to support organisations in communities across the UK which empower children and extend their life choices, and this phenomenal total will go a long way in helping us make a lasting impact. An enormous thank you to everyone who once again went above and beyond!”
