On Saturday 22nd June, children enjoyed a 1940s themed craft workshop at Pescod Square. During the activity, little ones could design and decorate a wooden spitfire to take home and keep.

The five-hour craft workshop, hosted by Crafty Crew, allowed mini artists the chance to try their hand at creative techniques, using specialist and high-quality paints and accessories.

Boston’s 1940s Weekend

The craft workshop was in association with Boston’s 1940s Weekend. Following on from the success of previous years, the weekend attracted thousands of visitors to the town to experience the brighter side of the war years.

The event included screenings of two iconic films in Central Park; The Dam Busters and the original version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Other activities included an American themed afternoon tea at the Boston Guildhall and live music and entertainment in Central Park. With a vintage fair, vintage cars and re-enactments, the town was a vibrant hubbub of 1940s paraphernalia!

On Sunday afternoon, there was also a Spitfire flypast over Central Park.

Flying Colours

Using a variety of coloured paints, accessories and stickers, over 100 children took part in Pescod Square’s Spitfire Craft workshop and an array of wooden wonders wowed passers-by, parents and workshop staff.

Crafty Crew commented: “A big high 5 to all the creative highflyers and budding young pilots who came along to the workshop! Lovely to see you all and watch those awesome personalised planes take flight. We even had some 1940s dresses, mini army personnel and RAF pilots joining in the fun!”

Attendees gave great feedback following on from the crafting exploits. One parent said: “The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The children were very excited to be taking part and the staff made it much fun. My budding pilot loves everything RAF!” Another added: “My child thoroughly enjoyed the activity.”

Jason Vickers, from Pescod Square’s marketing department, said: “Plenty of children headed to Pescod Square on Saturday to enjoy the shopping centre’s crafty event. We’re delighted with all the positive feedback we received following on from the activity and we look forward to hosting more like these over the forthcoming months.”
